Top legal aid earners revealed
Tony Lenehan KC remains the top earner of legal aid fees, new figures from the Scottish Legal Aid Board detailing gross earnings show. In 2024-25, Mr Lenehan’s fees were £490,000, an increase of £40,000, or nine per cent, on the previous year.
Donald Findlay KC rose from third to second place with fees of £370,000 for 2024-25.
Mark Allison took third place, coming up from sixth, with fees of £366,000.
As for law firms, Maguire Solicitors took first place, rising from fourth in the previous year. The firm brought in £2 million, a 29 per cent rise on 2023-24.
Adams Whyte Solicitors came second, after placing sixth in the previous year, with fees of £1,986,000, a 32 per cent rise on its previous year.
Paterson Bell Solicitors held third place for the third year, taking in fees of £1,887,000.
For solicitor advocates, Iain M Paterson, of Paterson Bell Solicitors, took first place with fees of £393,000, a decline of nine per cent on the previous year.
He was followed by Iain McSporran KC, whose earnings were £364,000.
In third place was Graeme Brown of Bridge Legal Limited. His brought in legal aid fees of £345,000, an increase of 53 per cent.
