TLT wins licences for Celtic and Rangers fan zones

TLT has successfully represented both of Glasgow’s famous football clubs, Celtic and Rangers, in securing alcohol licences for improved match-day fan zone facilities.

While a number of football clubs in England and Wales are already operating successful fan zones, these are thought to be the first alcohol licensed fan zone facilities for top tier football matches in Scotland, enabling the clubs to offer an improved match-day experience.

In both cases, the fan zone trials allow the clubs to offer family friendly entertainment, live and recorded music, food and drink, on-stage interviews with former players and activity zones for children and young persons.

TLT’s head of licensing (Scotland), partner Stephen McGowan, represented both football clubs at hearings of the Glasgow licensing board, assisted by licensing solicitor Michael McDougall. TLT managed the end-to-end process, from liaising with numerous parties to submitting the application, responding to queries and representing the clubs at hearings.

Mr McGowan said: “Both clubs have shown a genuine desire to provide improved and exciting match-day facilities and experiences, particularly for families, when attending their stadiums.

“TLT and the clubs are incredibly grateful to a number of officials who have put significant effort into planning these activities and worked sensibly in partnership to support the proposals, including senior officers from Police Scotland and a number of officers from various departments of Glasgow City Council.

“It is important that our sports stadia continually strive to better the experiences of those who attend events, and we are grateful to the city’s licensing board for allowing us permission to trial these activities.”
