TLT licensing partner appointed trustee of Scottish Licensed Trade Benevolent Society

L-R: David McGowan, immediate past president; TLT’s Stephen McGowan; and David Morton, president

Stephen McGowan, head of licensing (Scotland) at TLT, has been appointed as a charity trustee to the Scottish Licensed Trade Benevolent Society.

Known as “The Ben”, the charity works to raise funds to support former publicans by offering pensions and retirement homes at The Ben’s estate in Pitlochry.

Mr McGowan said: “It’s an absolute honour to have been appointed a trustee of The Ben.

“From my experience, pubs play a vital role for the communities they serve, both as a place for social interaction for individuals but also as a focal point for wider community activities.

“It seems logical then, that the trade should also remember its own and look to care for those who, having retired from the trade, could do with some support.

“Along with my fellow trustees, I’m looking forward to helping retired publicans and their families.”

Mr McGowan is also chairman of the British Institute of Innkeepers (Scotland) and is a member of the Scottish Government Alcohol Industry Partnership, the Law Society of Scotland licensing sub-committee, and the Institute of Licensing National Advisory Group.
