Black Chambers is delighted to welcome three new members to the stable. Jonny Campbell, Declan O’Keefe, and Gillian Simpson called to the bar on 27 June.

Mr Campbell was previously a criminal defence solicitor, and from 2009 was regularly conducting trials at both summary and solemn level. In 2017, he was granted extended rights of audience as a solicitor advocate, and since then has appeared as junior counsel in several trials in the High Court. He was also appointed as an ad-hoc advocate depute in 2022.

Mr O’Keefe completed his traineeship in 2022, during which he gained invaluable experience appearing in the solemn courts. He then moved to another criminal firm and before leaving to start his devilling period at the bar had defended clients in a wide variety of areas of criminal law in both the summary and solemn courts. He was also responsible for preparing High Court cases for instructed counsel.

Ms Simpson was also a criminal defence solicitor prior to calling to the bar. She has regularly appeared in criminal trials at all levels, and established her own children’s hearings practice within a criminal defence firm. She has a keen interest in appeal work and human rights issues, with experience in challenging the compatibility of proceedings with the European Convention on Human Rights.

Details for all members of Black Chambers can be found here.
