Thief who broke into sheriff's house for second time sent back to prison

A man has been sent back to prison after breaking into a sheriff’s house, for the second time.

Michael Houston, 45, broke in Sheriff Maxwell Hendry’s home in Glasgow’s Kelvinside only weeks after he was released from prison.

He was jailed for more than two years for breaking into the house in October 2013 and stealing £30,000 worth of jewellery.

Mr Houston was released in June last year, having been imprisoned for other crimes in the interim, when he broke into the house again in the same month.

A passerby saw him and called the police.

The thief pleaded guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to breaking into the house and stealing a laptop, £200 cash and jewellery worth £1,000.

Sheriff Norman Ritchie QC sentenced him to 22 months’ imprisonment in addition to serving eight months from his previous sentence.
