Teenager admits knife attack on 12-year-old at Aberdeen school

A 15-year-old girl has admitted carrying out a knife attack on a 12-year-old pupil at an Aberdeen school.

The teenager, who cannot be identified, pleaded guilty at Aberdeen Sheriff Court to assault to the danger of life following the incident at Hazlehead Academy on 24 April last year. She was 14 at the time.

The court heard she repeatedly struck the younger girl on the head with a knife, causing severe injury and permanent disfigurement. She also admitted possessing the weapon on the same day. The victim was taken to the Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital for treatment and was later released.

Sentencing has been deferred, with the accused due to return to court in June.

In a statement issued through Digby Brown, the victim’s father said: “Schools should be safe environments and no parent, child or teacher should ever expect to have to deal with the prospect of attacks with weapons.

“Our daughter was significantly affected by this attack and her recovery remains our ongoing priority.”

An Aberdeen City Council spokesperson said: “We continue to support the school community.”
