In light of recent events at Holyrood that have prompted the Lord Advocate to assert the independence of the Crown Office, Scottish Legal News is asking readers if it is time for the office of Lord Advocate to be reformed?

Do you think the Lord Advocate’s role should be split into two new ones functionally equivalent to those of attorney general and director of public prosecutions in other jurisdictions? In this scenario, the head of Scotland’s prosecution service would not sit in the cabinet. That roles would be reserved for a dedicated chief legal adviser.

Or, does the role just need to be tweaked?
