Staff at the Edinburgh office at Maclay Murray & Spens (MMS) have donated more than £12,000 to a local charity, following a year of eclectic fundraising activities.Dozens of staff rose to the challenge of MMS’ corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme by organising activities such as sweepstakes, silent auctions, curry nights and a mad hatter’s tea party, all to raise money for the firm’s charity of the year, the Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre Lothian. Other fundraising activities included book sales and dress down days, and a “Big Challenge” 30-mile walk from Edinburgh to the Falkirk Kelpies.

Amanda Jones, a partner at MMS, said: “Our staff have demonstrated their continued support for our social and charitable activities by raising over £12,000 this year for another great cause, MS Therapy Centre Edinburgh. We are very proud of their achievements in finding new and unusual ways to raise funds for local charities.”

The Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre Lothian is an independent registered charity in Edinburgh. It was set up over 25 years ago by a group of people with MS and their families and friends. The centre is open six days a week to provide practical therapies and support for people with MS in Fife, Edinburgh, the Lothians and the Borders.

The centre focuses on self-management options to empower and enable people living with multiple sclerosis and other conditions. Therapies include physiotherapy, hyperbaric oxygen, reflexology and yoga. Users also have the opportunity to share their experiences with each other in an informal and friendly atmosphere.

MMS’ donation will be a valuable and much-needed contribution to the costs of running the centre.

Carole Macartney, chairperson for the charity said: “We are very grateful for the efforts of the staff at MMS in raising such a fantastic amount for the MS Therapy Centre Lothian - as a small charity we rely heavily on fundraising to help us provide our services which enable people living with MS to manage their lives. Their support in appointing us as Charity of the Year was much appreciated.”
