Solicitor admits possessing cannabis

A solicitor has admitted to possessing cannabis in court.

Michael McKeown, 51, was found with the drug when he was searched by police after court staff alerted them.

Staff doubted that he was a lawyer after he turned up at court wearing a Celtic training top.

Police who searched him found a small quantity of cannabis and Mr McKeown, a partner at Callaghan McKeown & Co, admitted an offence under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971.

He was given a fiscal fine of £325 after he was detained on April 6.

A source said: “Michael is hugely embarrassed by this.

“He knows how bad it looks and just wanted to get the whole thing over with as quickly as possible. It was a stupid mistake. He couldn’t have been thinking straight.”
