On Wednesday 3 October the Aberdeen Law Project (ALP) held its 2018 annual lecture, delivered by Sir Anthony Seldon and sponsored by CMS.

ALP hosted a capacity audience for the address of Sir Anthony Seldon, award-winning political author, contemporary historian and educator.

Sir Anthony delivered a fascinating talk on leadership and used his knowledge of British politics, both past and present, to give the talk some particularly interesting context.

As part of the annual lecture, ALP recognised the achievements of some of its most committed members over the past year. Raoul Rosca, Emanuele Kaluga, Lewis Walker, Nathan Corr, Amos Dahl, Beth Wheat, Samuel Munyeza and Jacob Price were all recognised for their commitment to the project, while Oliva Malek won the Pinsent Masons’ Pro Bono Award for her contribution to the representation team, and Marsaili Van Looy picked up the CMS Project of the Year Award for her dedication to the new digital crime awareness project.

Martyna Proczek and Jonathan Goodyear, deputy student directors of ALP, were jointly awarded the Daniel McColgan Award for the greatest overall contribution by an individual student. Their performance this year was described as “among the best the project has ever seen”.

Judith Aldersey-Williams of CMS closed proceedings by leading a skills session on writing effective legal advice, which attendees described as “invaluable” and “brilliant”.

Lauren Frame, student director, said: “It was a rare privilege to be able to host Sir Anthony at our annual lecture and I would like to take this opportunity to thank him again for being so generous with his time.

“I found his speech to be thought-provoking and inspiring. And my congratulations again to our award winners, it is exciting to be working with such an able team. I am looking forward to what promises to be an incredible year for the Aberdeen Law Project.”
