Sheriff Principal Pyle retires

Last week marked the retirement of the Sheriff Principal of Grampian, Highland & Islands, Derek Pyle.

Scotland’s longest serving sheriff principal, he held the post for 13 years and also served as a sheriff for 25 years.

Sheriff Principal Pyle was a founding member of the Scottish Court Service (now SCTS) board and a member of the Judicial Appointments Board for Scotland for six years.

He also championed the creation of the Inverness Justice Centre. Sheriff Eilidh MacDonald has been appointed as temporary Sheriff Principal of Grampian, Highland & Islands.
