Scottish Law Commission reviews busy year in law reform with latest annual report

The Scottish Law Commission’s Annual Report 2016 is published today and outlines progress on the commission’s law reform work during 2016.
The chairman of the Scottish Law Commission, Lord Pentland (pictured), said: “This has been another busy and productive year for law reform in Scotland. The work of law reform is of vital importance in ensuring that the law is kept up to date. As society continues to develop, so must the law. The law must remain in tune with modern values and the outlook of today’s society.”The chairman welcomed the continued progress in the Scottish Parliament on the commission’s recommendations for law reform with two law reform bills passed: a consolidating measure on bankruptcy law and a bill reforming aspects of the law of succession.
Lord Pentland also noted that at the UK Parliament there were important achievements for the commission in 2016, with the enactment of the Enterprise Act 2016 implementing recommendations on the payment of late claims in its joint project on insurance law with the Law Commission for England and Wales.
