SCJC programme details justice reform priorities

The Scottish Civil Justice Council (SCJC) has published its Annual Programme detailing how it will deliver on its key priorities for 2016-17, including implementation of the Courts Reform (Scotland) Act 2014 and other justice reform projects.

The programme includes work on a range of court reforms including expenses and funding in civil litigation; and implementing the legislation surrounding inquiries into fatal accidents and sudden deaths.

The Council will give particular focus to the following matters during 2016/17:

  • continued implementation of major justice system reform projects;
  • consideration, and preparation for implementation, of new legislation;
  • ongoing preparation of rules revisions necessary to implement primary and subordinate legislation and developments in case law (this is the ‘care and maintenance’ element of the rules); and
  • consideration of potential improvements to procedures, particularly in respect of those aspects of civil courts reform which can be taken forward without primary legislation.
  • Annual Programme
