Swinney receives report on financial redress for victims of abuse in care

John Swinney

A report on potential financial compensation for victims of abuse in care has been presented to Deputy First Minister John Swinney.

The report and recommendations from the SHRC InterAction Action Plan Review Group, in partnership with CELCIS (the Centre for Excellence for Looked After Children), outline a potential financial compensation/redress scheme for victims of abuse in care in Scotland.

Mr Swinney said: “I am profoundly grateful to the Review Group and CELCIS (the Centre for Excellence for Looked After Children in Scotland) for bringing forward a substantial and serious piece of work based upon significant engagement with survivors.

“We will now give the recommendations early, detailed and sensitive consideration, and report back to Parliament in due course. We recognise the hurt and damage caused to those who were abused in childhood by the very institutions who should have cared for them, and will continue to work closely with survivors and their representatives.”
