Primary school warned by Lord Lyon over heraldic logo

A primary school in Perth has been warned by the Lord Lyon to stop using an unregistered heraldic logo on their school uniforms, The Courier reports.

Craigie Primary School has been advised that its traditional logo breaches Scotland’s 300-year-old law of heraldic arms.

In a letter to parents, head teacher Lesley Gibson said the school’s only options were to pay £1,800 to register the logo or to cease using it.

Parents of pupils are being asked whether they would contribute to the registration fee to protect the school badge, which has been in use since the 1950s.

A spokesperson for the Court of the Lord Lyon said: “Every school badge has to be registered if it is heraldic. If they are not registered the school or organisation must cease using them.”
