Peter Murrell to appear in court next month over embezzlement charges
Peter Murrell, former chief executive of the SNP, is to appear at the High Court next month after having been charged with embezzlement.
Mr Murrell, the estranged husband of Nicola Sturgeon, was charged in April 2024 after a police investigation into the party’s finances.
He was granted bail last March after making no plea when he appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court.
The Crown Office confirmed that a preliminary hearing on Mr Murrell’s case is to take place at the High Court in Glasgow on 20 February.
A Crown Office spokesperson said there was “significant interest” in the case but added: “Anyone publishing items about active cases is advised to exercise caution as material must not be commentary or analysis of evidence, witnesses or accused.
“Contempt of court carries penalties of up to two years in prison and/or an unlimited fine.”
