Northern Ireland barristers best advocates on the pitch

Scots lawyers may be celebrating the national team’s success in the World Cup qualifiers – but they are licking their wounds after a bruising defeat by the Bar of Northern Ireland.
The Northern Ireland barristers triumphed 7-3 over the Faculty of Advocates in Edinburgh earlier this month, topping off a three-year run of victories over their English, Welsh and Irish counterparts.
A wily advocate scored in the first few seconds of the match, giving even Scott McTominay a run for his money, but Éamann Donnelly quickly equalised for the Belfast side.
Goals from Eoghan McCarthy, Conor Leonard and Thomas Thibodeau – who secured a hat trick – ensured the visitors pulled away.
Two second-half penalties narrowed the score to 4-3, but further strikes from Sean Mullan and Mr Donnelly sealed the result.
“Another successful trip for the Bar football trip and another notch on the belt,” the team told our sister publication Irish Legal News.
“A superb après match display of hospitality from our Scottish brethren meant lengthy post-match analysis and the bonds of friendship deepened.
“The Faculty of Advocates were presented with a commemorative piece of Belfast Crystal.
“Next fixtures to be confirmed but the Grand Slam is now complete. Excelsior!”
