News Group refused permission to appeal Sheridan case to Supreme Court

A newspaper group has been refused permission to appeal a defamation verdict involving Tommy Sheridan to the Supreme Court.

Mr Sheridan was awarded £200,000 in damages after winning against the defunct News of the World in 2006.

Owner News Group sought to have the verdict struck down earlier this year following Mr Sheridan’s conviction for perjury in 2010.

However, it failed and permission to appeal to the UK’s highest court was denied this week by judges in the Court of Session.
