New guide launched on workings of Scottish justice system

A new-look digital guide to the Scottish justice system has been launched to help people understand the different processes as well as find up-to-date information.

It is part of a collection of free online resources created by Community Justice Scotland (CJS) to help people understand the complexity and structure of justice processes in Scotland.

The visual overview of the Scottish justice system illustrates the various stages a person may pass through, from an alleged crime, to investigation, prosecution, sentencing, and beyond. It features the latest statistics, concise descriptions of justice terms and details of support and interventions available in different areas across the country.

The refreshed digital guide has an accessible and clear layout, making it easy to navigate and find information on different stages of the justice system. It is also linked to CJS’s Community Support and Interventions Directory where people can search for what help could be available in different local authorities across Scotland.

Gemma Fraser, head of insights and intelligence at CJS, said: “The Scottish justice system is complex and often overwhelming so we created this digital resource so people can have a better understanding of it.

“We’ve made all the information clear and accessible to help people in their work, study or personal lives understand each stage of the system. You can now also access the latest statistics and search where to find support and interventions for people involved in the justice system to tackle their offending behaviour.”
