New advocacy support helpline launched for survivors of gender-based violence

The Scottish Women’s Rights Centre (SWRC) has launched a new advocacy support helpline to complement its legal helplines and surgeries.

The helpline has been set up to help women survivors of gender-based violence answer questions about the justice system, child welfare, finances, housing and employment, among other issues.

In addition, women can get short and long-term advocacy representation for processes where they want to make sure their voice is heard.

The helpline is open every Tuesday, 11am to 2pm and it is run by experienced advocacy workers. More information is available on the SWRC website.

SWRC co-ordinator Katy Mathieson said: “We are delighted to be launching an advocacy helpline at the SWRC. This helpline will complement our legal helplines and surgeries by offering women survivors of gender-based violence information and support around the barriers they experience when they are engaged in the justice process.”
