“Mark Dennis, the Californian who made Scotland his home, became one of the nation’s finest heraldists and a trusted figure within the legal system. In both disciplines, he was admired for clarity of thought, fairness and compassion, qualities that earned him enormous respect.

“His true vocation lay in heraldry. Artist, natural leader, author and born humourist, he injected learning, passion, colour, verve and fun during the many years he served the Heraldry Society of Scotland, and brought the same talents when from 2009, he was appointed an officer of arms at the Court of the Lord Lyon.”
