Burness Paull has promoted Margaret Meehan to partner in its pensions team.

Ms Meehan joined Burness Paull in 1993 and has more than 25 years’ experience in pensions law. A specialist in complex advisory work for both the public and private sectors, her clients include trustee boards and professionals, owner-managed businesses and multi-national corporations, local authorities and not for profit / charitable organisations. Widely recognised as one of Scotland’s leading pensions experts, Margaret is a member of the pensions law sub-committee of the Law Society of Scotland.

The seven-strong team at Burness Paull is nationally and internationally recognised as a market leading pensions team in Scotland and the rest of the UK.

Ms Meehan said: “Taking the step up to partner, at what is a defining time for the pensions market, will be hugely fulfilling. The challenges of an ageing population, auto-enrolment, greater flexibilities and legacy defined benefit versus money purchase schemes are all creating an extremely dynamic environment. Tech will also have an increasing role to play in encouraging employees to engage more actively with their pensions.”

Sarah Phillips, partner and head of pensions at Burness Paull added: “Margaret’s promotion to partner will bolster our incredibly strong team and inspire confidence in our clients at a testing time for employers and trustees. As lawyers, we have to be able to adapt to these market changes too. With Margaret’s wealth of experience and sector-wide knowledge we will work closely with our clients to deliver creative and strategic solutions.”
