Man jailed for murder of Glasgow teenager

A man who ran over a teenager while under the influence of alcohol and drugs has been sentenced to life imprisonment.

Dean Wright has been ordered to serve a minimum of 22 years in custody after he was found guilty of the murder of 18-year-old Liam Hendry in Glasgow on 29 September 2019.

The High Court in Glasgow heard the teenager was thrown into the air after being struck by a van driven by Wright, 32, who then drove the vehicle at four people who attempted to help Mr Hendry, forcing them to move out of the way.

David Green, procurator fiscal for homicide and major crime, said: “The sentence imposed upon Dean Wright today is reflective of the brutal and sustained nature of his crime.

“Liam Hendry’s family have suffered a devastating loss, and our thoughts are with them as they attempt to come to terms with what has happened.”
