One of MacRobert’s emerging talents has been recognised at the Scott + Co Scottish Legal Awards 2015.

Lisa Maguire, a member of the banking and finance team who is also involved in business development, was highly commended in the Rising Star category at the awards.

John Macmillan, MacRoberts’ managing partner, said: “We are delighted that Lisa has been recognised at these major awards.

“She is a very talented lawyer who is a valuable member of our growing team. Within MacRoberts we are very fortunate to have so many excellent lawyers like Lisa in all of our practice areas. ”

Ms Maguire added: “The last two years have been very successful for me and I am hugely grateful to the partners at MacRoberts and our fantastic client base. If the next two years are as extraordinary as the last, then they promise to be exceptional.”

Ms Maguire joined MacRoberts in 2013, a year after qualifying, and her work includes helping to build and grow referrals from London.

She has recently been acting on the Scottish aspects of note issuances and providing legal opinions for a number of German, Dutch and other overseas financial institutions, and for a host of lenders and borrowers in the acquisition or refinancing of property portfolios including industrial sites, shopping centres and, most recently, for the borrower on a large-scale corporate acquisition of 60 care homes across Scotland.

Mr Macmillan was also delighted that short-listed in the Specialist Lawyer of the Year category was John McGovern, who is joining MacRoberts as a partner in their regulatory and compliance team in mid April 2015.

He said: “John is one of Scotland’s most renowned and respected lawyers in this area as this recognition highlights.

“We are delighted he will be adding his experience and skills to the expertise we already have at MacRoberts.”

Mr Mcgovern is a solicitor advocate who has been practising criminal and regulatory defence work for over 25 years.

He is also a part-time tutor in advanced criminal law at the University of Glasgow.

He said: “I am honoured to have been shortlisted for this award. It comes at an important time in my career with a move to such a highly-regarded firm as MacRoberts and I am looking forward to the opportunity to help them with their ambitious growth strategy and the development of their practice in this growing area.”
