Lord Ross

Former lord justice clerk Lord Ross has passed away at the age of 98.
A public memorial service for the late judge is to be held at Canongate Kirk in Edinburgh, where he was an elder, on Friday 13 June 2025 at 1pm.
Educated at Dundee High School and Edinburgh Law School, Lord Ross qualified as an advocate and took silk in 1964.
He served as vice-dean and then dean of the Faculty of Advocates from 1973 to 1976, before becoming a Senator of the College of Justice in November 1976.
Lord Ross spent more than two decades on the bench, including 12 years as lord justice clerk from 1985 until 1997.
After his retirement, he was appointed the inaugural chairman of the Judicial Studies Committee, which eventually became the Judicial Institute.
Lord Ross passed away peacefully at Cramond Residence in Edinburgh on 26 April 2025.
His family have opted for a private funeral but has said all are welcome to the memorial service at Canongate Kirk next month.
