Lord President to deliver keynote speech at Law Society of Scotland’s Annual Conference

In “The Scottish courts in the 21st Century”, Lord Carloway will reflect upon the recently implemented court reforms and how they can make the justice system more efficient and accessible to the public. Looking ahead, he will also identify the key areas where further work is needed to ensure that the Scottish justice system will continue to operate effectively as a public service in the future. Delegates at the conference will also have an opportunity to put their questions to the Lord President.

A graduate of Edinburgh University, Lord Carloway was appointed Lord President of the Court of Session and Lord Justice General in December 2015. Admitted to the Faculty of Advocates in 1977, he served as an Advocate Depute from 1986 to 1989. He was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 1990 and a Judge in 2000. His report into criminal law and practice was published in November 2011.

Taking place at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre on Tuesday 19 September, Leading Legal Excellence: For the greater good will address a wide range of issues impacting on the Scottish legal profession including Brexit, new technologies and the role of the solicitor.
