Livingstone Brown Solicitors remains largest legal aid recipient

Glasgow-based Livingstone Brown Solicitors has maintained its status as the largest recipient of legal aid in Scotland, despite a 13 per cent drop in the total amount it received.

The firm was paid nearly £1.7 million in 2015-16, down from more than £1.9 million in 2014-15.

Meanwhile, payments to Martin, Johnston & Socha Ltd Solicitors in Dunfermline steadily increased since 2013, bringing the firm to second place on the Scottish Legal Aid Board tables.

The firm earned more than £1.5 million in 2015-16, up 10 per cent on 2014-15 and 11 per cent on 2013-14.

The other top recipients in 2015-16 were:

  • Adams Whyte Solicitors - £1.535 million (-1%)
  • Bruce McCormack - £1.328 million (+11%)
  • Drummond Miller LLP - £1.307 million (+23%)
  • Turnbull McCarron Limited - £1.230 million (+2%)
  • Latta & Co Solicitors - £1.199 million (+27%)
  • Paisley Defence Lawyers Ltd - £1.145 million (+14%)
  • George Mathers & Co Solicitors - £1.130 million (-17%)
  • Paterson Bell Solicitors - £1.104 million (-17%)
