Harper Macleod's good sports raise £1,250 for Children 1st

Staff at Harper Macleod have raised £1,250 for Children 1st – Scotland’s National Children’s Charity – following a sporty challenge linked to firm’s role as legal advisers to the Glasgow 2018 European Championships.

As part of its activities for Glasgow 2018, the firm teamed up with Children 1st to hold an internal ‘Get Fit for the Champs’ competition. Five teams within the firm competed against one another to see who could cover the furthest distance over a four-week period. The walkers were backed by donations from their colleagues and contributions from a ’80s-style dress down day – held in honour of Harper Macleod’s 30th birthday this year.

Children 1st help Scotland’s families to put children first, providing practical advice and support in difficult times. The charity also supports survivors of abuse, neglect, and other traumatic events in childhood, to recover.

After Children 1st mascot Hamish the Highland Cow collected the donation, Annamaria De Felice, corporate fundraiser at Children 1st, said: “The teams did a fantastic job taking on the challenge and the funds raised will make a big difference to help protect children in Scotland. Thank you very much, everyone has been a great sport.”

Martin Darroch, chief executive of Harper Macleod, said: “We’re delighted to be able to raise this money to help Children 1st carry out its vital work in our communities, looking out for and protecting children across the country. Law firms always love a challenge, so it was great to have a bit of healthy competition and help a good cause at the same time.”

For the record, the winning team – The Flything Runners from the firm’s Edinburgh office – covered an incredible 1431km, leaving their colleagues in the dust.
