Jailed drug trafficker ordered to pay back £189,000
A drug dealer jailed for 10 years has been ordered to pay back almost £190,000 under proceeds of crime laws.
Steven Gribble, 44, was sentenced at the High Court at Glasgow in June 2024 after pleading guilty to a charge of being involved in serious organised crime.
Gribble’s conviction came after a haul of cocaine with a street value of £1.6 million was recovered following a police search of a property in Aberdeen during October and November 2023.
Gribble, of Aberdeen, was later identified as having criminal links to the owner of that property.
At the High Court in Edinburgh yesterday, the court made a confiscation order in the sum of £189,038 and recorded that his benefit from general criminal conduct was £1,710,000.
The confiscation order can be revisited if further assets belonging to Gribble are identified in the future to be paid towards the full amount that was determined as the benefit from his general criminal conduct.
Sineidin Corrins, procurator fiscal, said: “Proceeds of crime orders are a vital tool to disrupt crime in Scotland and one of the many ways we can target those who try to profit from illegal activity.
“We will not stop at prosecution. The Crown has the power to extend orders to seize money and assets Steven Gribble acquires in the future to pay back the full amount he made from his crimes.
“Even after convictions are secured, the Crown will apply to the court to pursue orders to ensure funds obtained illegally are confiscated. The money recovered is reinvested into our communities through the Cashback for Communities programme.”
