The Scottish Young Lawyers’ Association (SYLA) has announced its latest series of events. It is a busy time of year so check out the full list of events below.

So you want to be an IP/IT Lawyer? – Tuesday 9 October 2018, Burness Paull LLP, Glasgow

Aimed at students, trainees and qualified solicitors this event aims to give an insight into the day to day lives of an IP/IT solicitor from a contentious and non-contentious perspective. We will hear from Colin Hulme, a partner with Burness Paull, who leads the firm’s IP practice and Yvonne Dunn, a partner with Pinsent Masons who leads her firm’s financial services technology practice. This will take place at Burness Paull LLP, 120 Bothwell Street, Glasgow with registration from 5.30pm with speakers commencing at 6.00pm and will be followed by networking and drinks at 7pm. The panel of speakers includes Employment Judge Frances Eccles, Musab Hemsi, Senior Employment Law Advisor at Ellis Whitam and Jen Wright, Associate at DWF. Our Keynote speaker has been an employment judge for 18 years and will offer an insight from the Bench. Spotlight on Entrepreneurs - The story of Social Bite - Tuesday, 23 October 2018, Glasgow

Join SYLA and friends from 5.30pm on Tuesday 23 October for an event hosted by Trades Hall, Glasgow. We’ll hear from Josh Littlejohn, founder of ‘Social Bite’, who will explain the story behind the growth of this forward-thinking social enterprise, combining third sector principles with a 21st-century business model and his take on future strategy. More than just a Lawyer? Your pathway towards a charity trustee role – Thursday 25 October 2018, Edinburgh

Increasingly in the legal profession solicitors need to be able to show that they can not only provide effective advice on any legal issue, but that they have relevant commercial awareness and transferable skills that make them a capable and trusted adviser. This event will focus on the opportunities presented by taking on a charity trustee role. Attendees will hear from Julie Hutchison LLB TEP WS and Founder of The Informed Trustee and from Scott Fyfe, solicitor at Anderson Strathern LLP who will set out the main duties and responsibilities of a trustee.
