Henrik Larsson in IP dispute over use of name by Scots businessman

Celtic legend Henrik Larsson has found himself in a legal dispute with a businessman over the use of his name.
James Dear, 64, has been accused by Mr Larsson of “exploiting” his reputation by trademarking his name for a range of branded clothing.
The UK Intellectual Property Office has banned Mr Dear from using Mr Larsson’s name in sports-related gear.
Another ruling, however, on other types of clothing and to decide if the trademark was filed in “bad faith” remains pending – and Mr Dear is set to appeal.
The UKIPO’s Judith Pike said: “Given Mr Dear’s explanations I do not think his subjective intention was to cause deception. However, the objective effect is the same: it will misrepresent the goods as being connected with the applicant.”
