Hastie Stable welcomes Andrew Brown QC back to full time practice

Andrew Brown QC

Andrew Brown QC has returned to full-time practice after serving as an advocate depute for more than five years. During his time in Crown Office, Mr Brown prosecuted multiple trials in the High Court, including ten murders.

He also regularly appeared before the criminal appeal courts, and has now acted as lead counsel before the Supreme Court, both for the Crown and for the defence.

In 2013, he was appointed as health and safety crown counsel and remained in that role until his departure from Crown Office earlier this month. As a result, he has broad experience of health & safety litigation.

An amateur pilot, he found the successful recovery of the helicopter black boxes in the Sumburgh case, whilst appearing for the Lord Advocate before the Court of Session, particularly interesting.

Mr Brown has been asked to represent the Crown at the forthcoming fatal accident inquiry into the Jim Clark and Snowman rally deaths.

He has been a member of the Hastie Stable for over 20 years. Stable director Gavin MacColl said: “We are delighted to welcome Andrew back to private practice. He brings a wealth of knowledge in relation to criminal matters, particularly in the field of Health & Safety which greatly enhances the expertise of the stable in that specialist area.”
