Harper Macleod’s next generation steps up

Harper Macleod has welcomed 23 new trainee solicitors, a record intake for the firm, making it one of the largest employers of legal graduates in Scotland.

Twenty-three law graduates have begun Harper Macleod’s two-year fixed-seat traineeship programme, joining a wide range of teams across Glasgow, Edinburgh and Inverness including banking & finance, commercial real estate, corporate, commercial & regulatory, dispute resolution, public & parliamentary, private client, renewable energy and rural property.

Alongside the firm’s 19 trainees, who have just started their second year of training, Harper Macleod now has 42 trainees across the business. Meanwhile, the firm also celebrated 17 newly qualified solicitors who have just completed their two-year traineeship, reflecting a retention rate of 85 per cent.

In 2022, the firm introduced a fixed-seat traineeship model which enables trainees to gain more in-depth experience within their chosen areas. This year, the firm received a record number of applications for its traineeship programme, almost double last year’s total, following a successful graduate recruitment campaign.

Martin Darroch, Harper Macleod’s chief executive, said: “We’re extremely proud of the opportunities we’re able to provide to the next generation of legal talent, which is down to the growth we’re seeing as a firm across Scotland. We strive to be an employer of choice, with a culture of opportunity for all, no matter which stage of your career.”
