Harper Macleod runs up a great tally for Children in Need (and makes it onto the podium too!)

Teams of runners from Harper Macleod had success on and off the road last weekend when they took part in the “Bank of Scotland Great Scottish Run”.

The firm fielded teams in both the 10k and half marathon events on Sunday, 2 October, and took the opportunity to raise money for Children in Need, in association with event sponsors Bank of Scotland.

The “athletes” also took part in the BoS Business Challenge, and the 10k team – led by a fantastic 11th place finish by Ciaran Dougherty – managed to come 2nd in the “Large Business Mixed” category, with a combined time of 3:16:43.

More importantly, the efforts of all the runners along with a series of charity initiatives including a Bake Off (and bake sale!), dress down day, raffle, quiz and a “Lazy Lifts” scheme (those not taking the stairs had to pay for the privilege!) saw a total of £2,100 raised for Children in Need.

The Team HM runners were: Euan Pirie, Fiona Strang, Lesley Jamieson, Chloe Downs, Ciaran Dougherty, James Friel, Gordon Struthers, Andrew Mackenzie, Matt Lamberton, James Ferguson, and Jenny Smith.

Martin Darroch, chief executive of Harper Macleod, said: “From previous charity events within our offices we already knew we were decent at baking, but it was great to find out we had so many runners within the ranks.

“We were delighted to lend our support to such a great cause, which everyone in the firm got behind to raise such fantastic amount, and no doubt we’ll be looking to do even better on both counts next year!”

The Harper Macleod team’s mydonate fundraising page is still live for anyone who’d like to contribute to a great cause. https://mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/harpermacleod
