Andrew Upton, an associate in the dispute resolution team at Harper Macleod LLP (pictured) has been appointed to the office of legal member of the First-tier Tribunal, Housing and Property Chamber.

The Housing and Property Chamber currently determines a range of private rented sector letting and property factoring disputes, with its jurisdiction set to be extended from December 2017 to include recovery of possession of properties under certain types of tenancy and claims under the new letting agents’ regime.

Mr Upton said: “I am delighted to have been appointed to the Housing and Property Chamber. With the new tenancy regime coming into effect from the end of this year, and the regulation of letting agents also due to commence, it is an important and exciting time to be involved in residential lettings.

“I am looking forward to being involved in the chamber’s increasing workload following the transfer of jurisdiction from the Sheriff Court, and the challenges that will bring.”

Andrew joins Harper Macleod partner John McHugh as a legal member of the Housing and Property Chamber.
