Govan Law Centre to launch new community-based energy advice service

Govan Law Centre (GLC) is launching a new community-based energy advice service in Glasgow funded through the Energy Industry Voluntary Redress Scheme.

Our Routes from Poverty service presently consists of money, debt and welfare rights advice as well as legal representation for housing and homelessness. GLC supports vulnerable low-income individuals and families at various outreach locations in Glasgow.

The centre’s new full-time energy adviser will provide a tailored energy advice service helping people reduce their energy consumption, manage energy debts, resolve utility provider disputes, as well as educating and informing on best practice.

This service be based in the community and will help households most at risk and vulnerable due to deprivation and low income and other barriers such as mental health, language, age and disability. Working with our partner organisations energy advice will be accessible to all 3,500 members of nine local community food larders and 500 pantry members who form part of the Good Food Scotland and Scottish Pantry Network along with residents in the areas covered by Govan and Govanhill Law Centres.

Our Routes from Poverty service operates daily within larder and pantry outreach locations at: Nitshill, Kennishead, Pollok, Cardonald, Linthouse, Knightwood, Toryglen and Sandyhills as well as taking referrals direct at our offices in Govan and Govanhill.
