Free EHRC webinar: Challenging discrimination under the European Convention on Human Rights

On Tuesday 10 November, the Equality and Human Right Commission Scotland will host an international panel discussion exploring the use of Article 14 (Prohibition of Discrimination) in the caselaw of the European Court of Human Rights.

The discussion will draw on the expertise of the European Network of Equality Bodies’ (Equinet) Equality Law Working Group which recently conducted a year-long deep dive study reviewing Article 14 Judgments over a two-year period from the European Court of Human Rights, and a year of monitoring communicated cases.

This expert group has recently published Compendium: Article 14 cases from the European Court of Human Rights and Equinet’s submission to the Court in the case of Toplak and Mrak v Slovenia.

This seminar provides an overview of the findings and experiences of the working group on these two related projects which will be of interest to students, lawyers and academics, as well as members of NGOs, Equality Bodies and National Human Rights Institutions. The discussions will also cover some of the practical aspects of intervening in the European Court of Human Rights.

Speakers include:

  • Chair: Mhairi Snowden, Coordinator, Human Rights Consortium Scotland
  • Dr Jone Elizondo-Urrestarazu Legal and Policy Officer (Equinet, European Network of Equality Bodies)
  • Veronika Bazalová, Head of Department of Equal Treatment, Public Defender of Rights, Czech Republic (Moderator of the Equinet legal Working Group)
  • Lindsey Reynolds, Equality and Human Rights Commission

With time allocated for a Q+A session.

Further details and registration information are available on the Eventbrite page.
