Former staff of collapsed law firm Hamilton Burns unlikely to be paid

It is unlikely any creditors of Hamilton Burns will receive money owed to them following the collapse of the law firm last year, administrators have said.

The firm’s former staff were owed a total of £25,000 in unpaid wages and holiday pay while the HMRC was owed £210,000.

FRP Advisory’s Tom Maclennan and Iain Fraser, joint administrators, said it is “doubtful there will be sufficient funds” to pay staff their wages and “it appears there will be insufficient funds” to repay unsecured creditors.

Former Hamilton Burns partner and managing director Bill Criggie is due to appear before the Scottish Solicitors’ Discipline Tribunal in May after the Law Society of Scotland made a complaint, though it is unknown what the complaint relates to.
