Five new sheriffs appointed

Five new sheriffs have been appointed by Her Majesty the Queen to take up office in the New Year.

Frances McCartney, Andrew McIntyre, Gary George Aitken, Ian Hay Cruickshank and Christine McCrossan have been appointed to the office of sheriff, on the recommendation of the First Minister.

Frances McCartney and Andrew McIntyre have been appointed to the Sheriffdom of North Strathclyde, to be based at Paisley Sheriff Court and Greenock Sheriff Court respectively.

Christine McCrossan has been appointed to the Sheriffdom of Grampian, Highland and Islands, to be based at Peterhead Sheriff Court and Gary George Aitken has been appointed to the Sheriffdom of Grampian, Highland and Islands as a floating sheriff, to be based at Inverness Sheriff Court.

Ian Hay Cruickshank has also been appointed to the Sheriffdom of Grampian, Highland and Islands on a part-time basis and will be based at Lerwick Sheriff Court.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon made her recommendations for appointment on the basis of a report by the Judicial Appointments Board for Scotland.

The appointments will come into effect on 15 January 2018.
