And finally… dead loss

An internal review of a police force has revealed that officers were recording intelligence on dead people.

Irish Gardai were mistakenly logging details on their computer system, ironically called Pulse, including ‘sightings’ of homicide victims.

The findings came to light after a review of the data from 2003 to 2016 was ordered by the Garda commissioner following criticism of homicide figures.

Informed sources think the embarrassing revelations raise questions over the integrity of Garda intelligence and indicate that the scale of erroneous data may be much greater than previously thought.
