FAI court process begins for Low Moss prison death

The Crown Office has lodged a first notice to begin the court process for a fatal accident inquiry into the death of 25-year-old Aidan King, who died on 17 December 2020 within HMP Low Moss.

A preliminary hearing will be held on 13 November 2025 at Glasgow Sheriff Court.

The inquiry will explore the circumstances of Mr King’s death, with particular focus on the adequacy of Scottish Prison Service policies and procedures to control the circulation of controlled substances and the management of substance abuse within HMP Low Moss.

Procurator fiscal Andy Shanks said: “The lord advocate considers that the death of Aidan King occurred whilst he was in legal custody and as such a fatal accident inquiry is mandatory.”
