The chief justice of Nepal and other members of the judiciary in Nepal paid a visit to the Faculty of Advocates this past weekend.

The visit took place after they had spent some time in London, where historic Letters of Goodwill were exchanged between the President of the United Kingdom Supreme Court, Lord Reed, and the Chief Justice of Nepal, the Rt Hon Prakash Man Singh Raut.

While in Scotland the party from Nepal visited the Court of Session, the Advocates’ Library and the Judicial Training Institute.

Janys Scott KC, who assisted Professor Mark Hill KC from the London bar in facilitating the visit, said: “It was a pleasure to welcome the chief justice and his party. They were keen to hear from Lady Morag Wise about the history and current work of the Court of Session and were interested in the facilities for judicial training, explained by Sheriff Pino Di Emidio.”

A return visit is planned for later this year, to continue sharing best practices and promote co-operation between the UK and Nepal in upholding the rule of law. The project is being supported by the United Kingdom Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, with the assistance of HE Rob Fenn, British Ambassador in Kathmandu, and HE Chandra Ghimire, Nepalese Ambassador in London.
