Faculty staff and members sweat it out for charity

Members of Faculty and staff are cycling, walking and trekking in aid of various good causes next month.

Advocate Neil Mackenzie is cycling from Land’s End to John O’ Groats to help Shelter.

He said: “What am I doing? The Ride Across Britain is 100 miles or more every day for nine consecutive days. I have cycled 100 miles only twice before. And they were separated by a year.

I have tried to train. The thought of this ride has loomed large for a year.  Am I ready? No. Will I give it my best? Yes.”

Sharron Wilson, of the Advocates Library, will tackle Kiltwalk Edinburgh to raise funds for the haematology unit at Kirkcaldy’s Victoria Hospital.

She said: “I want to make a difference for patients in Ward 34 of the Victoria Hospital Haematology Department. My mother and many others either attend this unit or stay in for their treatments.

“The NHS staff strive to treat their conditions doing remarkable work. I would like to raise a little money to donate to them to purchase items of their choosing that help make the patient journey a little easier. My brother and I are going to complete the 24-mile Kiltwalk Edinburgh on 16 Sept. Please give a little to this cause. Thank you.”

Advocate Robert Sutherland will trek to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro in aid of Children 1st.

He said: “I am looking forward to getting to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro along with all the other people in the group. Most importantly, I hope to be able to raise a lot of money for Children 1st and the important work they do helping those who have suffered from neglect, abuse or other traumatic events in their lives.”
