England: Law Commission to consider criminalisation of misandry

The Law Commission in England and Wales has been asked to consider whether misandry (hatred of men) should be brought under hate crime legislation.

The UK government has expanded the remit of the review launched last month in response to calls to consider making misogyny a hate crime.

Home Office Minister Baroness Williams told BBC News that the decision to include misandry in the review had been made based on what “the public and other organisations are telling us”.

She added: “It may well be that particular strand is not necessary to take forward, but we are asking them to look at it.”

BBC reports suggest that ageism and hatred of “alternative cultures such as goths or punks” could also be included in future.
