A leading barrister, arbitrator and shipping expert will address some of the challenges facing the shipping sector at a special event in Aberdeen.

James Turner KC, has decades of experience in energy, shipbuilding, and shipping disputes and has a focus on decommissioning, ship recycling and decarbonisation.

Mr Turner will address delegates at the Aberdeen Shipping Seminar hosted by legal firm Pinsent Masons on 12 October at its Queen’s Road offices.

The firm’s Sarah Munro, an expert in shipping employment law, and colleague Maria Gravelle, a specialist in immigration law, will also address the event.

Pinsent Masons partner, Gavin Farquhar, said: “Like many other sectors the shipping sector is going through a period of change as it addresses energy transition and we are delighted to welcome to Aberdeen James Turner KC, who will discuss decarbonisation within the UK shipping industry.

“Following the removal of The Offshore Wind Workers concession by the Home Office in April, and coupled with the impact of Brexit on the employment of EU nationals, the seminar will also look at the challenges in sourcing suitable workers and seafarers required for vital offshore windfarm construction and maintenance projects.”

Bruce Craig, Pinsent Masons partner and shipping law expert, added: “Aberdeen Harbour is well established as one of the UK’s busiest and most important ports and this seminar will help keep maritime industry leaders and decision-makers informed on some of the challenges they face today and in the future.”
