Elizabeth Gordon appointed to ASA Council

Former pensions lawyer Elizabeth Gordon has been appointed to the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) Council.

Mrs Gordon is one of four new members of the Council, which is responsible for deciding if an ad has broken the advertising rules and therefore needs to be amended or withdrawn. The Council also operates as the Board of the ASA.

She spent the first 10 years of her career as a solicitor in private practice in the occupational pensions team of a large Scottish law firm.

Her time working in this field included many years of significant and complex legal change as the UK government transformed regulatory protection for members of occupational pension schemes.

Clients included boards of trustees of UK-wide pension schemes and work involved advising on changes in the law and regulatory compliance, interpretation of trust deeds and pensions aspects of corporate transactions.

Mrs Gordon later left the law and took up a post managing a large, independent provider of NHS dentistry in Edinburgh. Since 2022, she has been a non-executive director of the Lothian NHS Board.

Welcoming the four new Council members, Lord David Currie, ASA chairperson, said: “I am delighted to welcome Mark, Elizabeth, Murphy, and Monisha as members of the ASA Council.

“With their diverse backgrounds and expertise spanning multiple industries, I am confident that they will bring a wealth of knowledge and perspectives to the Council, and I very much look forward to working with all four of them.”
