Edinburgh Law School to host 6th Edinburgh Arbitration Pre-Moot next month

Mooters from around the world will descend on Edinburgh Law School on 11 and 12 March for the 6th Willem Vis International Commercial Arbitration Pre-Moot – a competition that combines international commercial arbitration with substantive law on international sale of goods.

The problem is based on the 24th Willem Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot, with final rounds in Vienna in April 2017 and is designed to prepare the students for the Vienna pleadings.

Moot teams will plead their cases for claimant and respondent and moot arbitrators will provide constructive oral and written feedback to the teams.

Dr Simone Lamont-Black, founder of the Edinburgh Pre-Moot and Vis Moot Team, said: “We are very proud to be hosting this Practice Competition again this year. Teams from England, France, Germany, Hong Kong/China, Japan, Switzerland, the Netherlands and Turkey, have enrolled to practice together with our Scottish teams before pleading their case in Vienna. However this would not be possible without the generous and kind support of the legal and arbitration community, without whose care, time and valuable feedback this event would not be possible.

“Since its inception in 2012 we have been growing steadily and now have teams on the waiting list to join our event. We are also always grateful for new moot arbitrators to come forward and join our arbitration panels.

“It is a friendly and supportive environment and it was suggested that the Willem Vis Moot activities were the best law events of the year.”

Arbitration practitioners, lawyers or academics with interest in international commercial arbitration and/or international sales law, who would like to support the teams and are willing to act as arbitrators, whether for one 2 hour session or more can contact Ms. ÁRNADÓTTIR Snjólaug at s1474723@sms.ed.ac.uk.

On Friday 10th March 2017, prior to the Pre-Moot, Edinburgh Law School and partners will host a conference on Multi-Tier Dispute Resolution Clauses which may be of interest to the pre-moot participants, whether arbitrators or students.
