Edinburgh dancers seek sponsorship for once in a lifetime trip

Young dancers in Edinburgh who have been selected to represent Scotland at an international competition are seeking sponsorship to help them cover the costs of this once in a lifetime opportunity.

Morningside Dance Academy, founded in 1984, is attending the Dance World Cup 2019 in Portugal this summer.

MDA will be fielding seven soloists, two duets, and six different group dances, and a total of 23 dancers from MDA will be taking part in the prestigious event.

Whilst it is a tremendous honour for MDA’s dancers to be asked to form part of the Scotland team, it is also a big financial commitment and so they are seeking support from businesses and individuals to help make their dream a reality.

The MDA Dance World Cup Fundraising Committee has set up a Crowdfunding page, but there are also a number of ways you can help whilst at the same time boosting your own business’ profile.

MBM Commercial’s Cat MacLean, whose daughter is one of the lucky dancers, is a member of the committee.

She and her fellow committee members are organising three main fundraising events: a quiz and disco night in on 9th March; a race night on 18th May; and a showcase event in June at Broughton High School on the evening of Thursday 20th June, at which the competition team will be performing some of their individual solos together with all of the Dance World Cup entries.

For each event, the committee will also be running a raffle, and anything you can donate for the raffle, by way of voucher or other prize, would be very gratefully received.

The committee will be crediting all the donations in the raffle literature and will make sure every business who has helped will be name-checked.

For the Showcase Event on the 20th June, the committee will be preparing a programme for the evening and for those local businesses who have supported MDA on its journey. The committee will be publicly thanking all such businesses for their support.

There are also a number of specific advertising opportunities organisers are able to offer businesses who support them:

• For a donation of £50, you will be given the opportunity to have your firm’s logo printed on the Scotland team flag which the girls will take with them to the Dance World Cup and will have with them on stage during the adjudications;
• For a donation of £100, you will get a half page of free advertising for your business in the Showcase Programme. MDA has many hundreds of pupils and it is expected the event to be a sell-out, so this is a great opportunity for significant exposure for your business; and
• For a donation of £150, you will be given the opportunity to have your firm’s logo printed on team T-shirts which the girls will be wearing in the run-up to the Dance World Cup, at the event, and afterwards. The intention is to arrange several “flash mob” dance performances in the centre of Edinburgh in the spring, so this is a fantastic opportunity to publicise your business to the wider public.
