Dominic Grieve tops SLN Brexit poll

Dominic Grieve QC

Dominic Grieve QC, the former Attorney General for England and Wales, has narrowly beaten Joanna Cherry QC in the SLN poll that asked readers which lawyer and parliamentarian had conducted themselves most admirably from a legal perspective during the current Brexit debacle.

Labour’s Sir Keir Starmer QC came third and the current Attorney General Geoffrey Cox QC came bottom of the poll.

It is perhaps no surprise that the vast majority of the 422 votes cast went to opponents of Brexit. Dominic Grieve has demonstrated himself to be a man of principle and integrity, cutting a lonely figure on the government back-benches.

Joanna Cherry was a big favourite with our readers who were impressed with her command of constitutional law and her forensic attention to detail during her questioning of the government’s shambolic ferry contract award process.

Sir Keir Starmer, a decent man whose opposition to Brexit is hampered by the interminable and, seemingly insoluble, Brexit machinations trailed in third, and Geoffrey Cox, Parliament’s most impressive basso profundo, was, predictably, bottom of the poll.
