Dentons launches new Consumer Portal for clients

Dentons has launched a Consumer Portal to help clients navigate the consumer law and enforcement aspects of the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 (DMCCA).

Enacted in May 2024, the DMCCA has been implemented in stages, with most of the consumer law provisions coming into force on 6 April 2025.

The DMCCA introduced major changes to how consumer protection legislation is administered and enforced in the UK, creating significant new compliance challenges for consumer-facing businesses.

Dentons’ free Consumer Portal is designed as a one-stop shop for businesses seeking practical guidance on the consumer aspects of the DMCCA.

Compiled by Dentons’ consumer law experts, the firm’s Consumer Portal includes resources on:

  • consumer enforcement powers and provisions;
  • pricing practices;
  • fake reviews, hidden advertising and social media platforms; and
    greenwashing.
  • These resources will be updated to reflect new guidance, emerging enforcement trends and new cases brought under the DMCCA.

Businesses accessing the resources will also be able to contact Dentons’ consumer law specialists via the portal for expert advice on any consumer-protection-related queries.

Laura Whyatt, a partner in Dentons’ UK competition team, said: “We have launched this Consumer Portal in response to client demand for easy-to-access expert support on how DMCCA provisions are being implemented and enforced.”

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has recently demonstrated its intention to crack down on harmful practices that directly affect consumers, with the launch of eight new investigations into online pricing practices by a range of businesses. These are the first enforcement cases brought by the CMA using its new DMCCA powers and clearly illustrate the need for guidance on how to comply with the new regime.

Tom Hanson, a partner in Dentons’ UK disputes team, said: “Our Consumer Portal’s resources offer clear, digestible explanations and advice on core aspects of the DMCCA, based on Dentons’ own analysis of where the Act will affect businesses most.”
